Antigua and Barbuda sued the United States at the World Trade Organization (WTO) in June 2003. They blocked access to their markets to operators in this area. Thus, they violated an international agreement called the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS). The WTO ruled in favour of the islands in 2004 but the United States has appealed this decision. It was held in April 2005.Thus; they had a year to change their laws to conform to the AGS. Having nothing to change their law, Antigua and Barbuda won the trial, claiming 3.4 billion dollars in compensation. From 2007, they will get for each year 21 million in compensation for damages.
